RESTORATION

OUR ULTIMATE GOAL AT THE END OF THE DAY IS TO PRESERVE AND CONTINUE THE LEGACY OF THE CRAFTSMAN AND DESIGNERS THAT IMAGINED AND BUILT THESE CARS ALL THOSE DECADES AGO.
Here at Abbot we are dedicated to the preservation, restoration and maintenance of all types of historic Porsche vehicles including both air-cooled and water-cooled 911 models. In this new era of appreciation for these cars it is also clear that automobile restoration and preservation has evolved as well. The job of an auto restorer now is to conserve each project as a historical, cultural artifact and an investment that you can enjoy for years to come. With over 30 years of experience in restoring Porsches with multiple concours winning builds, we not only bring back the feeling of ‘new’ to these cars, but we also ensure that you will have the confidence to go out and enjoy them.

PROCESS
RESEARCH AND DOCUMENTATION
Beyond expert high quality restorations, we extensively research each project and compile a complete history of the car and document its provenance. A unique advantage we have at Abbot is an extensive database of Porsches in South Africa dating back to the 1970s.
ORIGINAL PARTS VERSUS REPRODUCTION PARTS
We care about getting the details right and that means using original parts as far as possible. Sometimes we have to machine or 3D print some parts to the exact specifications of the original parts due to the scarcity of them. Here at Abbot we have an extensive collection of original spare parts that we can go pull from for some of our restorations.
METAL WORK
Quality metal work is probably the most important part of the build process. It is the foundation that provides longevity for a finished project. We do all the metal work in house to ensure the foundation of the car is of the highest quality before it goes to the spray booth.
INTERIORS
Interior work is one of the two areas we don't do in-house. We use an interior trimmer that fabricates each interior from new and pays attention to the original construction methods of each project.
PAINT
Paint is another area we don't do in-house. We ensure that hours of metal preparation is done to lay a stable foundation for painting the automobile.
ENGINES
Our engines and gearboxes are built in-house by Tim Abbot. We typically put 300 plus kilometers in the car once complete to ensure the car is properly sorted and performs to the highest standard.
CONCOURS PREP
At Abbot we go beyond the restoration process to offer comprehensive Concours preparation services. Our seasoned crew has dealt with the pressure and logistics of many prestigious concours events and have the awards to prove it.
